Good afternoon! Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1v7
Today we are testing ourselves with God's definitions of "but and first.
Luke 9v60 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.
There is so many of us today that say I will, but first..... I will but first let me think of what my Doctor says. I will, but first I have this problem. I will, but first I have to think of hurting someone's feelings and loosing their relationship I have with them, instead of first growing in the relationship I have with you, so I can help them out of your love for them through me. I will, but first what about paying my bills and working hard to put money on the table. I will, but first what about how busy I am with my own work I am doing for you. I will, but first I need to think about what people may think of me. I will, but first I am not worthy of you knowing me so I can never be who you want me to be, I would rather stay here where I am lost in my weaknesses. Jesus asked more after sending out the twelve to follow Him and He told us all about the excuses they had for not following, with a but or a first let me. They were lacking faith in His power above everything else in the world. We have been given the Holy Spirit to know this faith He had in the Father because His faith is given to us through the Holy Spirit. Those that are not relying on His power in them still do not truly believe He can give us all we need in this life. We say we want to follow, and we profess out loud we are following but are we really and truly flowing Him by His fullness being evident in our daily lives. Are looking at Him making us who He wants us to be, by the effect of our love for Him showing by His speech coming through us, His love coming through us, His peace, joy, knowledge and wisdom showing throughout our life know matter where He sends us? Jesus goes on and tells us the cost of flowing Him before He sends out the seventy or seventy two. They come back and tell us how many evil spirits submit to them but He tells them we are not to glorify ourselves but to be thankful we are in the book of life. We are to glorify Him in putting us in the book of life, glorify Him in sending us out to glorify Him in who He is, not to boast about how many evil spirits submitted to us in His name. He keeps a record of that, all we need to focus on is Him and who He is making us for His purpose. It is for His pleasure that He reveals all things to us an makes us His children. When we only look at His power in who He is making us, then He will give us His eyes to see with, and we will receive and see blessing from Him for it. Martha said, by her actions of being distracted, "I will follow you Jesus but first let me clean the house and make ready your meal, and tell Mary to help me." Not only was she upset because Mary was able to stop and listen, she couldn't because of her own pride and her own works. She got up set with Mary and her relationship with Christ, she wanted Mary to be distracted with her. We are to be in unity with Christ building each other up into His relationship not to separate ourselves in unity from Christ and His relationship. That is giving the devil a chance to divide us. So today what is our "but" or our "first"? If you do not have any than praise Him everyday with thankfulness for His fullness being evident in your daily life because you are building others up, out of His love coming out of you. Their relationship with Him is growing not only your relationship with them. The only way He can help others through us is to put Him first, in front of others.
(Ephesians 4v12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up v13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.) We will not be tossed back and forth in our thinking by saying but first let me...... we will be saying send me and I will truly follow!
