Good morning! Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today we are testing ourselves with God's definition of "not from yourselves".
Ephesians 2v8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Today's devotional is for all of us that try so desperately hard to do the right thing that they rarely receive what they are seeking because it is by their own efforts. I just read a page in a "Christian book" where someone needed help with their attitude and said something that cried out to my Spirit. She said, "There are many circumstances over which I have no control. However, I can control my response to these circumstances. This attitude is what keeps us from resting in our Savior and having faith in Him making us who we are. We can not control our emotions, our attitudes and our way of thinking. If that was the case why do we need a new attitude from Jesus Christ; a new covenant where God puts His laws in our minds and in our hearts. Why do we need Jesus Christ to make us righteous if we can respond and have our own self-control, we do not need the gifts of fruits of the Spirit if we can do it ourselves. He gives us a new attitude in our inner being, we are made new, we do not have the power to control any response. That is why people keep trying and trying and trying, because it is them doing all the work and not us having faith in Him putting all the work in us. All of the fruits of the Spirit are gifts, we do not have patience, and we never will without asking Him for His, because we know we have none. ( Jesus said, "Deny yourself and then you can be my disciple". You can not carry the cross but He can. Carrying the cross of Christ is denying yourself. You can not be grateful, gentle, patience, have goodness, self-control but He can. God is pleased with us because He is pleased with Him. Until we have faith in Him our Savior we can not please God. We try to seek faithfulness, gratefulness, patience and love but all we have to do is have faith in Jesus Christ and we will receive grace as a gift through the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit gives without limit. His attitude becomes our attitude not we make our attitude like him, He gives it to us. We do not know how He comes to live in us, we just know we are different made new the old self is gone. The old self is gone because we have faith in Him and believe in His love for us, not that we did anything to get it. The Holy Spirit gives us a new heart to know how much He loves us that surpasses all understanding we do not make our own heart new He gives us a new inner being to dwell in us. (Titus 1v1-2 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness-2 a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time) It is by faith we receive all that He wants to give us, not us trying to have faith in ourselves to make ourselves be that person for Him. Read Ephesians 2 and Titus 1) I love you with all the love God give me for you!
