Good morning, grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:28-30 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
Today on a Face Book I saw a couple that dressed for Halloween as Forrest Gump, and his girlfriend Jenny from the movie "Forrest Gump." "Forrest" had a beard, baseball cap, short gym shorts (from the 70's) and tennis shoes in the picture. "Jenny" was dressed in a white long, wavy, cotton, smock dress, and a brown swede vest with tassels(from the 70's). She also had a head band, and a long peace sign necklace. I have not thought of Forest or Jenny in a long time. Through this picture God brought me back to Forrest, Jenny, and all the crowd. He began teaching me a lot about Forrest, Jenny, Bubba, and Captain Dan from new eyes, and mind that I did not have before I knew Him. "Forest Gump" was an amazing movie with great actors playing their character parts. Most of us fell in love with Forest, Jenny, Bubba, Mrs. Gump, and Captain Dan. Throughout their life journey in what they learned about each other through their circumstances, and what they learned about each other from each other. When I first saw the movie I did not know my Savior, and the movie affected me totally different after I knew him as my Lord and Savior through faith. Because my mind thought differently about everything because my Savior was renewing it, and leading it to see, hear, and ponder what he wanted me to see, and hear for my own benefit. Since I had given him all rights to my mind in faith at the cross he truly was teaching me all things about the world, and he was using all in the world to teach me about him. At the time of the movie I only saw everything through my natural human mind in what I was only capable of seeing. I saw then what two people learned by their circumstances, and the environment they were in. They both made the most of what they had learned from each circumstance by the movie showing each one's character, and how their circumstances and relationships (box of chocolates) affected them.
Forrest had a childlike optimism that was contagious, and he inspired many to imitate it. Forrest was missing in his mind something normal healthy children, and adults have. His mind was not fully developed in its intellect as we can see throughout the movie. As Forest Gump's mother told him, "Life is a box of chocolates, and you never know what you are going to get." In other words she did not know what kind of life or child she would get, and Forrest did not know what kind of life, or child he would get. In their mind through these chocolates (relationships and circumstances) they received they can make choices own their own to make the most of them. Forrest at one point was fearful that his own child would be like him without a mature intellect. God takes us so far beyond us making the most of our chocolates when we know him, and our Savior in what he did for us on the cross. Forest, Jenny, and Captain Dan showed us many humans survive, and prosper through their own human nature, but with God through His Son we can go so much further than our own power making the most of our relationships, and circumstances now, and live forever. He truly gives us all we need in this life to deal with this life we all have been given.
If Forrest knew His Heavenly Father through faith in His Son in what he did for him at the cross I know he would not have reacted the same way about his circumstances. He may have done the same things, but inside he may have reacted differently. He would not have to run from his troubles that many days, and that far if he knew Christ. Knowing that things just happen is no way of dealing with all the things that happen to us in life. Although that "T" shirt telling us bad things just happen has become very popular. We should not be allowing this kind of wisdom to control us. I know Jenny would not have been looking for love in all the wrong places if she knew Christ. She, and Forrest may have ended up together sooner, and would have missed out on a lot of suffering they both went through. If Forest knew Christ Jenny's rejection would not have affected him the same way. Although Forest had the forgiveness of a child he also had uncontrollable behaviors of a child. Captain Dan would have never acted the same way when Forrest saved him, nor would he try to kill himself. Those who are in Christ still do not know what kind of chocolates they are going to get, meaning circumstances and relationships, but they do know where they come from, and for what purpose they are to be used. This is what his presence within ourselves gives us, and our lives prove our faith in him is real because it proves he is.
The boxes of chocolates his children through faith in Christ receive will always show his faith, love, joy, peace, his glory, and goodness in his plan, and his purpose for their lives. So today as I ponder this movie I see it differently, and my "box of chocolates" differently because I belong to my God, and Savior, and his chocolates reveal his plan, and purpose for my life. I do not know what they are, but I know what they will do, and why they are given, and that is to prove who he is, and to draw all people to him. So today your box of chocolates should reveal where they are coming from, by revealing who you are in all areas of your life inside, and out. When is the last time you thought about your "box of chocolates"; where they come from, and how they reveal who you are?
