Are you walking through life like a mule or a horse?

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bride or they will not come to you.
God is talking to His children in this Psalm telling them not to be like the horse or the mule who have no understanding.
Most of my life I walked around like a “horse” and a “mule” with no understanding of who my Lord and God truly was. I went my own way, and I was my own councilor leading me where I thought I should go. I never came to Him willingly because I had no understanding of His love for me and my love for Him. I had no councilor or Holy Spirit to teach me the way I should go. I found out the only true way to know Him and which way in life I should go is through Jesus and the Cross.
When I went to the Cross I quit being that horse and mule with no understanding because I received the Holy Spirit and now I go willingly where ever he takes me because I have all I need from Him to be and do whatever He ask of me as His Holy child. His love surrounds me and keeps my heart upright in His presence, and it molds me into the person I was created to be as His true child.
Mules and horses are very stubborn animals, they will not come to you every time you call them, and you cannot control all of them without a bridle or bit.
I was raised around horses, and have heard stories about mules. I knew some horses that would come to me easily because they knew I took care of them and fed them, but still they would do as they wanted when they wanted. Horse lovers know they have to respect horses because of their size and stubbornness to a certain degree if they want to gain their trust.
I knew some that could be easily trained with bit and bridle.  I also have known horses that you would have to chase and trick for an hour or more before they were caught.  I have also heard about mules that would not move no matter what you did, and the next morning they would be standing in the same place you left them.
I have known horses that have gone without water and not drink when water was right in front of them. If you have been around horses or mules I am sure you have some stories about how stubborn they can be at times, and God being the one that created them knows them more than anyone. He tells His people not to be like them, but many are.
How many of his children today are still being “horses” and “mules” doing what they please and going the way they want to go when God plainly councils them to go another way?
How many of His children know He gives them all they need but still go the way they want to go?
How many of his children today walk away from Him when He is holding out his hand with food and water to live for eternity?
How many wander away from God and for years he has blessed them over and over and over again but they do not listen?
How many of His children have to go through hardship after hardship before they will acknowledge who He truly is?
Today if you see yourself in the mirror as a mule or a horse with no understanding of God then listen to Him calling you from the Cross, repent and confess your sins and He will forgive you. He will send you His councilor the Holy Spirit to lead you as He lead Jesus, and you can be made into His child in His presence every moment, and going where ever He calls you in word and deed, and have all the understanding of Him that you need.
John 15:26 When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
As you put your trust in Him giving you all you need for His will for your life, His unfailing love will surround you and guide you for eternity. You will testify to others about His love you received from Jesus, and the love you now give Him through Jesus. He will keep your heart upright and you will rejoice in Him always.
Psalm 32:10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trust in him. Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous, sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Do not be like the horse and the mule and miss out on the understanding of Him He has for you through the Cross of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! Let Him be your guide to who you truly are!
